On several occasions, I have sent an emoji in a text to one of my boys and received this terse reply:

MOM. Don’t use that emoji. 

Ever. 

Again.

I have a really open relationship with my kids and when they’ve told me some of the meanings behind certain emojis, I’ve been surprised. Even alarmed. Had I inadvertently sent one of these double entendres to any of their friends? Had I posted them on Instagram? 

Thus began my emoji anxiety.
