BOOK NEWS
Thank you Celadon for believing enough in Puppy Brain to publish it in both hardback and paperback! The paperback releases in just over two weeks and we have a few fantastic events in the works:
Clovis, California
April 29th 6pm - Ticket Required
Because my Carmel launch for the Puppy Brain hardback was so special, I wanted to do an event similar to it here in my own town for the paperback. Locals know that Revival 23 is not only a gorgeous boutique, but staffed by the most warm and welcoming women. It just seemed like the right place to hold this event. Plus, it’s dog-friendly! I think there will be as many Nicholberry dogs there as people, so bring tape rollers. It’s like a celebrity dog event (we’re literally going to have a red carpet for them) and I can’t wait (the who’s who of the Nicholberry world will be there, including Poppins, Rufus, Harper, and Fritz!). We are working on ticket details, so please email me to join the notification list: nicholberrygoldens@gmail.com
Santa Barbara, California
May 10th 4pm - Ticket Required
I could not be more excited to announce another FRTD Signing and Fundraiser , as last year’s event in La Jolla was magical. I continue to pinch myself that we have such generous and kind families in our Nicholberry universe, as this time, one of our Santa Barbara families has offered to open their home for a happy hour event. I’ll be in conversation with
, author of Flash Point, and there will of course be plenty of First Responder Therapy Dogs, including founder Heidi Carman and her Golden Kerith. Please email me for ticket information. (And all dogs are welcome, so long as they are well behaved and remain on their leash). Santa Barbara, fundraiser, dogs? This could make for a great Mother’s Day weekend. (And a giant thank you to for the books).SOMETHING TO BUY
This morning I woke up to a text from Max with a link to this article (you can access it even if you don’t subscribe to the WSJ). Not only do I love waking up to an “I thought of you” text from my son, but I must admit that I went down a rabbit hole on their website and Instagram feed (also of note, they have a shop dog named Frits, so clearly, I was meant to find them). I am dreaming of creating a set of hand painted tiles with all of our dogs. Imagine a Nicholberry set adorning a powder bathroom or, better yet, an indoor doggie washing station! A girl can dream …
SOMETHING TO READ
Spaying & Neutering: Considerations and Review
This remains a hot topic among dog owners and a complicated one at that. I wrote an entire chapter on it in Puppy Brain and was so grateful for reproductive specialist Bruce Christensen’s detailed review, as it helped me have a deeper understanding even as I was writing. This article echoes some of those revelations, including the fact that this decision must be made on an individual basis. It is a helpful primer in educating you and preparing you for an informed conversation with your veterinarian. Also, don’t miss the footnotes. They will take you down a rabbit hole, but one that will provide valuable additional insights, such as those from the Hart study on the long-term health effects of neutering dogs.
