The Nicholberry Dispatch
Using math for Olympic gold and more desexing data (plus Audible videos are coming!)
BOOK NEWS
I think it must be a law of physics that if you decide to leave for a few days, and especially if you decide to go somewhere with limited internet access, you will receive important and time-sensitive emails.
Such was the case for me when I left this week, as I received an email from Celadon about planning the release of the paperback (!!), another from Macmillan that contained the edited videos for my collaboration with Audible.com (!!), and details from Zazie Todd about my participation in the upcoming Bark!Fest (!!).
Three months after Puppy Brain launched, it continues to open doors to exceptional opportunities and even more exceptional people. And I, I remain grateful. Can’t wait to share details on all of it in upcoming newsletters.
SOMETHING TO LEARN
How America’s Fastest Swimmers Use Math to Earn Gold
Working with Newton’s laws of motion and insights from linear algebra, this team of mathematicians used saran wrap and shark tracking accelerometers to develop formulas that improve swimmer performance. The results were staggering and may very well help Team USA bring home Olympic gold.

Gonadectomy in Dogs: Considerations and Review
This is one of the best summaries I’ve read of not only the current research as it relates to all breeds and all potential health issues (including joint issues and urinary incontinence), but also contains a masterful explanation as to why the data on mammary cancer is problematic. If you know someone considering spaying/neutering, please forward this to them.
