Welcome back to the Nicholberry Dispatch, where I bring you the latest insights into all things dog and a few things human. As always, I promise to keep it brief, but will also link to some great content that just might take you down a rabbit hole. And if you know me at all, you know I love a good rabbit hole!
BOOK NEWS
I’m still on a bit of a high from last week’s cover reveal and book presale. You all showed up in a mighty way! Puppy Brain was trending as a best seller in all three of its categories and I’m just so grateful to my amazing community for your belief in and support of me. But beyond that, I’m thrilled that everything these puppies have taught me is going to help so many others grow into resilient and happy dogs. It’s the ultimate experience of paying it forward.
I promised behind the scenes content and I think we simply must start with that puppy on the cover. I posted a younger picture of her here (below), as I thought it might be fun to see if any of you recognize her or can guess who she is. Let’s hear your thoughts in the comments!
SOMETHING TO READ
This little book (recommended by @itsmaxnichols, of course) was a game changer - it was the medicine that doubting me needed to simply do the work. From the first page to the last, Pressfield probes this concept of Resistance and somehow manages to infuse the reader with the conviction to write. It’s intended to help the reader win the inner creative battle and I promise you, it does just that. (And yes - that’s how my books look - I have to write down all of the hyperlinks as I read or my head will explode. Anyone relate?).
SOMETHING TO LEARN
Alternatives to Spaying and Neutering in Dogs
This webinar with Dr. Michelle Kutzler is one of my top five favorite webinars. Ever. Wide-ranging and comprehensive, she details the history of spaying and neutering (S&N) in the U.S., the impact of sterilization on both appetite (it increases after S&N) and metabolism (it decreases after S&N), and the vital role that reproductive hormones play beyond reproduction. She makes a compelling case about why we must make these decisions on an individual basis and equips the listener with information to make that decision for the dogs they love.
“Spaying and neutering has a profound negative effect on thyroid function and is the most significant cause for the development of hypothyroidism in dogs.”
SOMETHING TO CONSIDER
“The beauty of empathy is that it doesn’t demand that you agree with the other person’s ideas.” - Chris Voss
SOMETHING TO LOVE
Let’s keep changing the world, one dog at a time.
Hugs,
Kerry
Hmmmm my guess...is that little miss aqua Harper?
Love your information and content in your posts. Now about "writing "things down. I do this alot of times when I need clarification. I've told clients to do the same. It easier to see it on paper and makes my life easier to navigate at times. The good, bad and ugly. Then I can look at it all in back and white. It's not just a writers tool but a tool for everything and everyone. Thanks for pointing it out and sharing your rabbit hole...again.
I think the Mama is Posie and her Aqua puppy was a spunky little girl. I think her forever family name is Eve or Eva - I think Eve is right. Incredible cover photo of Ms. Eve looking right into the camera! 🐶🩵🥰
