This week two quotes found their way to me and I just can’t stop thinking about them. The first is from Arthur Brooks’ exceptional book, From Strength to Strength. I’ve had this book sitting on my bookshelf for a very long time now and while it’s one that I knew I’d eventually get to, it was a bit deep on the “to be read” stack (I may or may not have an issue with buying books).
But I went to visit my parents last week and with that visit came a lot of sobering thinking. Have you ever seen that visualization where someone draws 81 hashmarks on a giant yardstick and explains that these 81 marks each represent one year in our life (based on average life expectancy), and then asks you to mentally note where you are on the yardstick?
I was driving and thinking a lot about that yardstick. And aging. And for whatever reason, this thought dropped into my mind: I need to listen to Strength to Strength.
As my car charged, I downloaded it on Audible (which means I have a hard copy if anyone needs it!). Then I grabbed a coffee at Starbucks, got my navigation set, and settled in for a good talking to by Arthur Brooks.
