Great post by Dr Rein (and yes, we can access information, but that does not equate understanding it, or prevent us from applying confirmation bias).

Also - I love the quote you shared “Too often … we enjoy the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.” - JFK

Hi Kerry -

I am excited to hear more about nutrition! The more I learn, the less I know and how much conflicting information is out there! Our breeder and our vet have opposing views so I am erring on the side of the vet. (Somewhat!)

I feed our puppy half supposedly high quality kibble and half “PupLoaf” with raw Goats milk kefir and other toppers.

Thanks for opening the floodgates on this crucial topic!

The linked article from the Morris Animal Foundation perpetuates the myth that garlic is toxic to dogs. The study that “established” that toxicity gave dogs extremely high amounts of garlic. Garlic in small amounts is not toxic to dogs.

Garlic is listed as safe for dog food by AAFCO and FDA. There was a follow-up study in 2004 to the flawed 2000 study that said garlic was toxic to dogs. The 2004 study concluded that small amounts of garlic can be beneficial for dogs, effectively recommending its use in moderation.

Thank you so much for sharing all of your knowledge and passion for healthy goldens. Feel that it is important to follow the diet of whatever the breeder is using. Obviously your dogs and puppies are thriving.
