A friend gave me A Big Little Life. Oh how I cried when I read this book. When I lost Luke I read this passage so often and it gave me comfort. I often share with those who grieve their loss.

Dogs, lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you're going to lose a dog, and there's going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can't support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion. There's such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price. Maybe loving dogs is a way we do penance for all the other illusions we allow ourselves and the mistakes we make because of those illusions.

I read this book last year after seeing it as a pop up recommendation in my social feed. It was an emotional roller coaster of a book however it is a beautiful tribute to Trixie.

As a dog mom who considers her Goldens daughters rather than dogs, it was a struggle to get through the last few chapters. The love & loss is relatable in so many ways.

The impact that can be made on our lives by embracing a dog…the unconditional love, patience & humility that they teach us….their lives are too short.

This reflection on the things in life that get put in our paths for reasons we can't see at that moment! How wonderful that she wrote you that email, the outcomes you may never have known because of it! And, how many people & dogs you have impacted because of it! Thank you for always reminding us how life is like the dogs' food trails, never exactly knowing where it's going or how wonderful it can become. Looking forward to seeing you in Boston!!!

You will love A Big Little Life and come to share their grief. The way he writes about Trixie and their life together is so touching. Won’t spoil the ending, but it makes me love my backyard butterfly visitors even more than I have ever have.

So excited about your visit to Boston! Looking forward to it! Hearing about the origins of how the idea of writing the book is fascinating. Boy, the universe was aligning in multiple ways. Wow, things sound like the results could have been quite different in significant ways. Well done for listening to the universe. Puppy Brain is days away!
